Vera Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 19, 2026
Animora Media ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Vera mobile application for iPhone, iPad and Android. This policy explains what Vera collects, what it does not, who else handles it, and how to delete it. It covers the Vera app and these pages. There is no Vera browser extension and no Vera website account.
The short version
- You sign in, and we keep what you do in the feed with your account: reactions, saves, answers and poll votes, and the cards you were shown.
- What you type into search is kept without your account attached, so we can see what people look for but not who looked for it.
- We do not show ads, and we do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Vera has no chat, no uploads, and no posts. Nothing you do in the app is published to other users under your name.
- You can delete your account and everything tied to it from inside the app, in Profile → Settings → Delete Account.
1. Who we are
Vera is made and operated by Animora Media. If you have a question about this policy, about your data, or about anything else in the app, email support@animoramedia.com. Full contact details are in section 14.
2. What we collect
Your account
Vera requires an account, so that your saves, reactions and answers stay with you. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password.
- Email address - from whichever method you sign in with. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's private relay address instead of your real one.
- An account identifier - a random id that identifies you inside Vera, plus the identifier your Apple or Google sign-in supplies. Everything below is stored against this id.
- Display name - if your sign-in supplies one, or if you enter one when you sign up with email. It is optional and shown only to you.
- Password - only if you sign up with an email address and password. It is handled by our authentication provider and stored hashed; we never see it. Signing in with Apple or Google creates no password at all.
What you do in the app
This is stored against your account id so the feed can show you your own history and, over time, get better at what it puts in front of you.
- Reactions - which cards you marked heart, fire, skeptical or insightful.
- Saves - the cards you saved, so they appear under Profile → Saved.
- Answers and poll votes - the option you picked on a myth, question, quote or "You decide" card, and whether it was correct where there is a correct answer.
- Topic choices - the topics you pick on first run. These decide where your feed starts; they do not filter anything out.
- Feed activity - which cards were shown to you, how long you stayed on a card, when you skipped one, when you revealed an answer, and when you opened a dossier or shared a card.
What you search for
The words you type into search inside the app are stored separately from your account. We keep the search term, how many results it returned and the time, with no account id, device id or anything else that ties it back to you. We use these terms to decide what to research and write next. Because they are not linked to you, we cannot look up or delete an individual person's searches, so please do not type personal information into search. Terms that look like an email address or a long number are discarded rather than stored.
Kept on your device only
These never leave your phone and are removed when you delete the app:
- Your sign-in session, so you do not have to sign in every time you open Vera
- Your theme choice (light, dark or system) and whether haptics are on
- Whether you have finished the first-run screens, and your topic picks
- Small display preferences, such as whether a one-time hint has been shown
3. What we do not collect or do
Each of these describes the version of Vera that is shipping now:
- No advertising. Vera shows no ads and contains no advertising or ad-measurement software.
- We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing or advertising.
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking. Vera does not follow you around other apps or websites, and does not use an advertising identifier.
- No chat, no prompts, no uploads. There is nothing in Vera to type a question into and no way to upload a document or a file, so there is nothing of that kind for us to store or send anywhere.
- No location. Vera never asks for or receives your location, precise or approximate.
- No camera, photos, microphone or contacts. Vera does not ask for any of these permissions.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting. This release contains no crash-reporting or performance-monitoring service. Crashes are not sent to us. Apple and Google may still give us anonymous crash and performance reports through their own developer tools if you have agreed to share those with them in your device settings.
- No push notifications. Vera does not ask for notification permission and sends no push messages.
- No payments. Vera is free and has nothing to buy, so we hold no payment or financial information.
- No browser extension. Vera is a mobile app only. Nothing we make reads the web pages you visit.
If any of this changes, we will update this policy and the privacy labels on the App Store and Google Play before the change reaches you.
4. How we use it
- To run your account - signing you in, and keeping your saves, reactions and answers attached to you across devices.
- To show you the feed - starting it from the topics you picked, remembering which cards you have already answered, and avoiding repeats.
- To show honest aggregate numbers - how the votes split on a poll, or how many people got a question wrong, counted across everyone who answered.
- To improve Vera - understanding which cards people read, skip or search for, so we can write and order them better.
- To answer you - if you email support, we use your message and email address to reply.
- To keep the service working and safe - including dealing with abuse or misuse of the app.
We do not use your activity to build a profile of you for anyone else, and we do not use it to train a machine-learning model that is sold or shared outside Vera.
5. Companies that handle data for us
These are the only outside services involved in running Vera:
- Supabase - provides Vera's sign-in and its database. Your account record and everything in section 2 above is stored there, on our behalf. All traffic between the app and Supabase uses HTTPS.
- Apple - if you use Sign in with Apple, Apple confirms your identity to us and tells us your email address or its private relay equivalent. Apple also distributes the app and, separately from us, operates the App Store account you downloaded it with.
- Google - if you use Google sign-in, Google confirms your identity to us and tells us your email address. Google also distributes the Android app through Google Play.
- Expo - we use Expo's build service to compile and submit the app. It is part of how the app is made, not part of how it runs: it receives nothing about you while you use Vera. Over-the-air updates are switched off in this release.
- RevenueCat - the purchase library is present in the app because paid features are planned, but it is not started in this release. It is never given an account identifier and sends nothing about you. If that changes, this policy and the store privacy labels will be updated first.
Apple and Google have their own privacy policies covering what they do with your data in their own right, including as app stores. We do not control that.
6. What other people can see
Vera has no profiles, no feeds of other people, no comments and no messaging. Nothing you do is published under your name.
- Answer and poll numbers - such as "71% said Myth" - are totals counted across everyone who answered. Individual answers are never shown, and the app only displays a split once enough people have answered for it to mean anything.
- Reaction counts on a card are likewise totals. Which card you reacted to is shown back to you, not to anyone else.
- Your saved cards are visible only to you.
- When you share a card, your device's own share sheet sends the card's text and a link to Vera to whoever you choose. We do not see who you shared it with.
7. How long we keep it
- Your account and everything attached to it is kept while your account exists, so that your saves and answers are still there when you come back.
- When you delete your account, it goes immediately - see section 8. We keep nothing of it afterwards except where the law requires us to, and anonymous totals that can no longer be traced to you.
- Support emails are kept as long as we need them to deal with your request and any follow-up.
- Data kept only on your device disappears when you delete the app or sign out of it.
8. Deleting your account and data
You can do this yourself, from inside the app, without asking us:
- Open Profile, then Settings, then Delete Account. You will be asked to type DELETE to confirm.
- This permanently deletes your account and sign-in, your profile, your saved cards, your reactions, your answers and poll votes, and your reading history. It happens immediately and cannot be undone.
- If you cannot get into the app, email support@animoramedia.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.
Deleting your Vera account does not delete your Apple or Google account, and does not withdraw the Sign in with Apple permission you granted - you can do that in your device settings.
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do any of the following, and we will not treat you differently for asking:
- Know and access - ask what we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Correct - ask us to fix something that is wrong.
- Delete - delete your account in the app, or ask us to.
- Object or restrict - ask us to stop or limit a particular use of your data.
- Portability - ask for your data in a form you can take elsewhere.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of on that front. If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, email support@animoramedia.com from the address on your account. We will confirm it is you before acting on a request about a specific account.
10. Children
Vera is not directed to children and is not designed or marketed for them. You must be at least 13 to create a Vera account, and older where the law where you live requires it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email support@animoramedia.com and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
The providers in section 5 may store and process your data in a country other than the one you live in, and your data may cross borders on its way to them. Where the law requires a safeguard for that transfer, we rely on the standard contractual clauses or equivalent protections offered by the provider. If you want to know where your data is stored, ask us at support@animoramedia.com.
12. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit with HTTPS, and our database enforces per-user access rules so that a signed-in account can only read and write its own saves, answers and activity. Passwords, where they exist at all, are stored hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you and any regulator we are required to tell.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Vera changes. When we do, we will post the new version here and change the "Last Updated" date at the top. If a change means we start collecting something new or using your data in a materially different way, we will update this page and the App Store and Google Play privacy labels before that change ships, and tell you in the app or by email.
14. Contact us
